NEW PROCESS: The EIDA is to simplify the process of settling in the UAE.
UAE authorities have said they plan to simplify the process of settling in the country from next July by merging residency permits, labour cards and ID cards into one process.
Currently, those processes require trips to several different offices around the city but under the new system, applicants will be able to fill out a single form.
“There are too many hurdles for people to go through when they come and settle in the country,” said Dr Ali al Khouri, the acting director of the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) in comments published by UAE daily The National.
“This new process will consolidate three major steps into one.”
He said each ministry would still be responsible for approving applications in its area, but the application process will be overseen entirely by the EIDA.
“We will start with newcomers as it is more practical," he told the paper.
For those who already hold national ID cards, no additional action will be needed, Al Khouri added.

This is a natural progression of population identification verification and control systems. The authorities will hopefully be making use of the very significant IT resources available to them for speedy implementation.
The proposals reflect "Can do Will Do attitude" and their efforts should be aplauded.

As a businessman with interests in both, Mozambique and UAE, this is a remarkable step, for which I should congratulate the UAE Government.
And the side effects for this step will be to attract much more people to the Country and give confidence on the Government efforts to make UAE a easy, safe and secure place to come and work with.

Yes, we do hope this turns into a reality. Processes relating to government departments are pretty tedious... health cards, medicals, immigration and visas... not to forget the Utility sector for connections, disconnections and obtaining refunds. We have to currently go to 3 or 4 places to get work done and procedures keep changing so very often.
