Dubai’s low-cost carrier flydubai has become one of the world’s fastest growing start-up airlines, taking delivery of its fifth aircraft in five months, the firm said in a statement.

The Boeing 737-800NG is part of the 50 aircraft order the budget airline placed with the US plane maker last year.

It will immediately be put into service on the airline’s Doha route, the firm said in a statement, with the first flight being on Sunday.

The new twice-daily service to Doha is the first GCC destination for flydubai and the first direct service between Dubai and Qatar to be operated by a low cost airline.

Doha brings the total number of flydubai routes to seven, the others being Beirut, Amman, Damascus and Aleppo, Alexandria, and Djibouti.

"In general, this is a difficult time for the aviation industry, but we are extremely happy with the progress flydubai has made since we became operational at the beginning of
June,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO.

"Taking delivery of this aircraft on schedule is another boost to flydubai and with this expanded fleet we will be in a position to make a number of exciting route announcements in the near future."

flydubai was established in March 2008 with a start up capital of AED250m.

So where is the traffic statistics that support the claim of fastest growing airline in the world? Would make strong impact if they add such statistics along with the announcement of the new aircraft.
Careful about fastest-growing claims, tailspins happen this way

Nice to see all the usual PR 101 spin is being used for this new carrier, but they should be wary of too many claims about fastest-growing, because that is cant and will come back to bite them on the tailfin.
