The Fan Zone at Abu Dhabi’s brand new Formula 1 race track was open for business for the first time on Sunday as enthusiasts used the facility to watch Jenson Button clinch the World Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix on big screens.
A stunning race by Button saw him climb from 14th on the grid at the start of the race to finish fifth at Interlagos. Brawn team-mate Rubens Barrichello, who led the race early on, finished eighth, handing the title to Button with only the final race in Abu Dhabi to go.
The race in Abu Dhabi will now be a victory parade for Brawn, which has won the Constructor’s Championship, and its lead driver Button.
Sponsors might be disappointed that the race to the championship is over before it reaches the final stage at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island circuit on November 1st, but fans can still look forward to a festival of speed and entertainment.
The race will be the first to ever start in daylight and end in the dark under lights, and that isn’t the only thing providing thrills for punters. Beyonce will open the race weekend with a sell-out concert on Thursday, October 29th. Jamiroquai, Kings of Leon and Aerosmith will play on the following three nights.
