A new BD10m ($26.5m) Bahraini shopping mall in Malkiya will open to the public in December, officials announced on Thursday.
The Reef Mall mall has been in the pipeline for seven years after plans were announced in 2002 and it is set to create up to 600 jobs once open, the Gulf Daily News reported.
According to the paper the mall was delayed for three years because of a lack of coordination between government departments.
The new mall will have a range of shops as well as a hypermarket, food court and children’s play area.
Fawaz Al Deeb, the hypermarket general manager, told the paper they were looking to employ between 150 and 200 people.
"Those selected for senior posts will be taken to Kuwait (where the head office is located) for training, before assuming their duties here," he said.
Area councilor Ali Mansoor told the paper: "We are planning to have our own petrol station, food court and children play areas, in addition to a multi-purpose hall, training centre and a medical clinics complex.
"Government services could be also offered at the mall, but we are currently finalising that with the authorities concerned."
