Consumer confidence in Abu Dhabi, the largest of the seven emirates that make up the UAE, increased in the third quarter of 2009, an official survey showed.
The consumer confidence index for Abu Dhabi rose to 138 points in the three months through September from 125 points in the previous quarter, according to a report by the department of economic development.
Abu Dhabi owns more than 90 percent of the oil of the UAE, which has the world’s sixth-largest crude reserves.
Earlier this month, research from YouGov, commissioned by the jobs website Bayt.com, showed consumer confidence in the UAE had risen for the second time this year.
Just under half, 45 percent, of respondents to the Consumer Confidence Index were optimistic about their future finances, saying they would be in a better position in a year’s time.
