The Saudi king has waived the lashing punishment for a Saudi female journalist charged with involvement in a TV sex show.
The Information Ministry spokesman on Monday said King Abdullah ordered that the 60 lashes sentence for Rozanna al-Yami be dropped.
She was charged with involvement in a TV show in which a Saudi man publicly talked about sex, a taboo subject in the ultraconservative country, Associated Press reported.
Spokesman Abdul-Rahman al-Hazza said the king ordered her case and that of another woman journalist - also accused of involvement in the program - be referred to an Information Ministry committee.
Jawad, who has since been dubbed the Saudi sex braggart, was sentenced to five years in jail earlier this month for charges of “immoral behaviour”.
Three friends who appeared on the show with him were given two-year terms and 300 lashes.
The episode of ‘Bold Red Line’ caused a huge controversy in the deeply religious nation when it was aired in July. In it Jawad explained how he lost his virginity aged 14 and liked to pick up women for sex.
Jawad has complained that LBC misrepresented him by editing footage to present him in the worst possible light, and has lodged a complaint with the Disputes Committee for Publications.

An advisor to the Royal Council who is a prominent Islamic scholar has launched an outspoken attack on judges for handing out excessive prison and lashing sentences.
Sheikh Abdul Muhsin Al-Obaikan, who is also a member of the Shoura Council, said there was no Islamic justification for such excessive sentences.

It is a good decision of the king to waive the lashing of the reporter. Regardless of the crime it should not be permitted to lash anyone. Nor execute. It is very 3rd world and should not be a practice of any country which wish to live and act like a 1st world country.
Lets move away from the stone and into the 21st century

Dear Malek,... I would love Saudis if they r shy & I really hate what this man did & consider it disgusting BUT do you put a man in jail for that duration & lash him coz u r shy ??? No other way to fix it ? Like staying for service in a mosque to learn manners , doing community service , apologizing on same TV show for hurting feelings of shy Saudis , etc....

Discussing sexuality although it is such a sesitive subject in some countries should never be so freely done. Do it, enjoy it, savour it, but never brag about it. This has always been our way, it is not hypocracy, it is shyness. It is for ever so sweet yet we would all like to keep it undisclosed... This is the right way instead of standing in the middle of the street and screaming that i did this and that...
