Gulf Air staff are planning a three minute protest on Monday as part of their demands for better working hours and pay, it has been reported.
Hundreds of members of the Gulf Air Trade Union (GATU) are due to stop working and stand up for three minutes at 10am.
Union spokesman Sadiq Rabe'e threatened bigger action is the airline does not meet their demands, reported the Gulf Daily News.
"The excuse that the company is in an unstable condition is not true, especially since many managers' salaries have been raised," he told the paper.
"The company is also spending BD500,000 for things that don't affect productivity."
According to Rabe’e salaries of Gulf Air staff have not risen in line with other similar airlines in the region.
The union is planning to hold a sit-in on November 5 at Bahrain International Airport.
It claims Gulf Air bosses have frozen recruitment and salaries amid the global downturn, but the Bahraini-carrier has increased pay for senior management and selectively hired more staff, the paper said.
The union also wants 30 minutes taken off the working day – added a year ago – to bring it back to an eight hour shift.
Gulf Air told the paper it was developing a national airline to boost Bahrain’s economy and that senior management were working with all partners to deliver a successful business.

Gulf Air staff should wake up and share responsibility. The lack of staff friendliness .. lack of attentiveness to their jobs when you travel with them .... their downright rudeness ... THE STAFF are not blameless in ANY company and they have a responsibility in sharing the pain.
Good going Gulf Air staff .. make it harder - in fact if you are really lucky you might be able to create so much bad PR, cause the airline to lose even more money that you put yourselves out of jobs PERMANENTLY.
Have some foresight and wake up ... you might find yourself standing up for sure - in a job queue!

First day it should be 3 mins
After one week, to be increased to 30 mins.
Subsequently, till the Management comes to terms with the Union, every week, one day mass leave to be organized.
Why the staff should be penalised for all the mistakes of the Management decisions. The Directors, in fact, have destructed the organization, by not giving proper directions to the Managers to Manage the organization properly, which has resulted in today's pathetic condition of the organization. After all, the employees are there to execute the instructions given to them, and they are not to be punished for the mistakes of the Management. Let the Management take a right decision - if you take care of the employees they take care of you; if you punish them in some way, that will be reflected in your balance sheet in some way.

Three minutes? My daily bathroom break is more disruptive to my boss than this strike! The whole point of a strike is to hurt the employer. Symbolic industrial action doesn't work.
If it's Gulf Air though, they can probably take that three-minute strike during one of the many delays their flights have.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win...MK Gandhi
The Gulf Air staff must be admired for their courage and resolve, this is definately a step in the right direction.
