The first meeting of Dubai 2020 team, which aims to bring the Olympic Games to the emirate, is set to take place on Monday.

The talks will be chaired by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, news agency WAM reported.

The meeting aims to start the preparation for the Dubai 2020 initiative, which also aims to bring the World Expo to Dubai in 2020.

The 2020 team will also work to bring other big international events to Dubai.

The committee includes Dubai's most senior officials such the Mohammed Al Shaibani, head of the ruler's court and Dhahi Khalfan Al Tamim, Dubai's chief of police and Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Emirates.

Japan's Hiroshima and Nagasaki are also launching a joint bid for the 2020 Olympics. Delhi, Istanbul and Budapest have already expressed interest in bidding.

If successful Dubai would become the first city in the Middle East to host the Olympics.

Dubai certainly can achieve this aim. In Dubai there is a well established infrastructure of hotels to cater any number of guest, nice roads and efficient Dubai Police to handle the traffic. Stadiums are there and also under construction. Dubai is always stands first in the Middle East in all its development and certainly they will be the first nation to conduct Olympics in Middle east.
Go for it!

Get behind the bid!!!

We've seen some amazing things being done successfully here in this great city of Dubai, when they said that it couldn't be done. So, why not the Olympics? Anything is possible in this world. Obviously the U.A.E. cannot hold the games in our summer, so the Dubai Olympic committee will have to convince the IOC to move the event to the start or end of the year. It can be done by moving many of the other world class events around in the years running up to the event. Has anyone ever stopped to think why there's so much construction and infrastructure being done in the city of Dubai? Why did they build Dubai Sports City for example? This is something that has been thought of for a long time. Let's all get behind any attempt by the Government of Dubai and the U.A.E. for any bid to host the Olympics. Everyone will reap the benefits. Just imagine what will happen to property prices especially up at Dubai Sports City!! Bring it on and let's all see the positives. My City My Olympics.

Even in October it would be the hottest Olympics of all time, with only Athens '04, Atlanta '96 and St. Louis 1904 even coming close. The great majority of venues were at least 10 C less. And Atlanta (held in August), where high temperatures are around 31 C, was criticized as being too hot for outdoor competition. The high temperature in Dubai in mid-October is still 35+ C, with blistering sun and no clouds. Unless it's all indoor venues it's difficult to see how it could work before mid to late November.
