Drake & Scull secures contracts

Drake & Scull International has secured over US $80million (AED298.8 million) of work in two high-profile contract wins.

The firm will provide the complete MEP works for the Fairmont Palm Residence in Dubai under a $41 million contract. A further $40 million contract win will see the contractor provide MEP solutions at Cayan Investment and Development’s Infinity Tower project at Dubai Marina.

IFA Hotels & Resorts’ Fairmont Palm Residence will comprise two 11-storey residential towers. Drake & Scull will be responsible for the installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing, firefighting systems and swimming pools.

The firm’s scope of works will also include the installation of incoming and lv mains, standby equipment, automatic power factor correction and power and lighting systems. Work on the project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2008.

Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the Infinity Tower will reach a height of 330m and incorporate a high-strength reinforced concrete column superstructure that rotates through 90° to create a helix. Due to start in January 2007, the contractor will manage the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the complete MEP works for the tower including plumbing, power, fire alarm systems and air conditioning.

Arabtec will act as main contractor on the project. Currie & Brown has won the project management services contract as a joint venture with El Seif Engineering Contracting.

Drake & Scull sister firm Emcor Facilities Services Group meanwhile has announced plans to expand its operations throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The firm is seeking to establish strategic relationships with investors in the region and has appointed AL Mal Capital PSC as the investment banking advisor and deal structuring agent. Investors can buy shares via a private placement of its Dubai-based operation.
