Qatar is considering raising the salary limit for expats wanting to sponsor their families, it was reported on Tuesday.
The Labour Ministry has hinted the salary limit for expats wanting their families to be included on their visas could be revised soon as part of a set of new regulations being put in place to regulate the recruitment of foreign workers.
The paper said officials justified the proposed raise of the salary cap from QR4,500 to QR7,000 saying the move was inevitable as property rents had soared.
The recruitment committee at the ministry was currently putting in place a new set of recruitment rules, according to comments by the Minister of Labour, Dr Sultan bin Hasan Al Dhabit Al Dosari, in an interview with Arabic daily Al Sharq.
“The committee is currently busy seeking the views of various departments to frame the new recruitment guidelines,” the minister is quoted as saying.
He defended the quota system for various nationalities and said it held the key to maintaining demographic balance.
The paper added that the ministry was also preparing extensive lists of trades and the different nationalities that are considered to be specialists in them.

While I believe that ethnicity being a barometer of success is absolute rubbish, I find it amusing to note that the biggest supporters tend to be from countries where certain minorities far outperform the majority (when looking at success rates in that community relative to the broader country and opportunities being offered. Success being defined as either monetary or educational). Not sure how that supports their thesis at all...

To anyone from the United Kingdom referring to nationality as some kind of indicator for ability, may I remind you and all the other nationalities reading this of two things:
1. you better have no plans of going back to the United Kingdom anytime soon since that kind of racial incitement, even verbally, would land you in court in no time
2. some of the so-called professionals and tourists coming out here in the last few years have been a disgrace to their home country and, alongside Tony Blair, have done more than any amount of decline to undermine the reputation of Britain in this part of the world.

Americans and Brits, as well as any other nationality, are TCNs (Third Country Nationals) to any other nationality but the local nationals of the country they are in and their own countrymen if outside of their own country. Therefore, in Kuwait, all non-Kuwaitis are TCNs to someone else.

I agree to Mounir and his comments and may of the other except Dave. Racist remarks are not acceptable. Dave you should ahve see the Pink Walkton last week at Burjuman, its was a mix of all nationalities .Amazing to see the diversity for a just cause.
There are many from the west ( I dont want to name the nationality) here who have hardly gone to school but are Managers and slave drivers.
This country was built by the sweat and blood Asian labour with the joint efforts of all the people who call themsevles " Managers".I am sure even the Emaraties will agree to that.
This was a team work by all the 100 nationalities living here .All should be grateful to the Visionary Leaders of this country.
Let Qatar set its rules why worry about them. Having worked with the Brits for the last 20 years some are very good people and some are not . This is the same in any society and people.
All the five fingers are not the same, but when used together they form a firm grip.
Gone are the the days when "The Sun Never Set on the British Empire" Please dont spread hatered. The Asian tigers are roaring and what we see today "We can only get out of the recession if these Tigers Roar.
