CARD WARNING: Emiratis without ID cards will not have access to services relating to the Ministry of Interior after November 22.
Emiratis will not have access to services provided by the UAE's Interior Ministry after November 22 unless they have obtained an ID card.
The ministry said that expats in the country would be exempted from this rule "in the current time" but added that a deadline would be announced later.
According to a report by news agency WAM, officials have set the obtaining of identity cards as a precondition to obtaining services from security authorities and police directorates in all emirates as of November 22.
A statement issued by the ministry said that citizens who not hold an ID card will be affected in accordance with Federal Law No 9/Year 2006. It did not give any details regarding how many Emiratis have yet to register for the card.
The Statement also said that directives have been sent to all ministry departments across the country informing them of the new regulation.
The statement added that a new rule affecting expats in the UAE would be "announced at a later time".
The Law of Population Register and Identity card of the Emirates Identity Authority makes it obligatory for all citizens of the UAE and residents who are above the age of 15 to obtain the ID card, WAM reported.

Beginning of this year, when there was an insane rush to get ID cards I also applied for mine. This is how I did it... downloaded the Pre-Registration software and filled it up afterwards I visited the Emirates Identity Authority in Abu Dhabi with the printout. (Note. You need to be there at least by 7AM since they start giving out numbers for that day and they finish soon, so if ur late u will not get a chance to get in that day) I thought that like I heard from most, that I had to submit the form get an appointment and come another day for the rest of the formalities.. That however was not the case I was seated for 1 hour till my number was called and then they started processing everything from accepting the form to taking my photo and fingerprints. Everything was over in 1/2hour. 2 weeks later I received the card on post. It was extremely efficient and convenient.

Thanks Dhruve, its just simple. The solution to your answer will be - Get them to do the same on renewal of their passport or just make it mandatory. Guess it would be much easy to handle a maximum of 15% compared to the difference.

Thanks Dhruve, its just simple. The solution to your answer will be - Get them to do the same on renewal of their passport or just make it mandatory. Guess it would be much easy to handle a maximum of 15% compared to the difference.

It's probably been raised ad nauseum before on this medium but for expatriates, why not link the issue of the ID Card to the issue or renewal of a residency visa? The interesting thing about the ID card is that most of the information is already held by the authorities. it's just possbly not held by the same administrative office. therefore it would surely not be a major issue to wait the 3 years or so for the entire expat population to have all of this information centralised.
had this approach been adopted back when the law was introduced, a large majority of the population would now have an ID card and there would be less pressure on the offices of the ID Card Authority to issue the cards for Emirati's.
