Some 2.5 million pilgrims are expected to visit Saudi Arabia for hajj, according to an action plan drawn up by officials.

A comprehensive plan covering all aspects of the holy journey has been put together to ensure the hajj runs smoothly, Al-Sheikh Salih Bin AbdulRahman Al-Hussein, the head of the Presidency of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, told Saudi Gazette.

The plan includes a total workforce of more than 6,000 people, the paper reported on Sunday.

A total of 1,756 regular staff of the Presidency, along with 1,800 temporary staff are currently doing preparatory field work, the paper added.

Security is a major part of the hajj plan and a security force will be in place to crack down on pickpockets.

A total of 700 security personnel will be deployed at the Holy Mosque’s 139 gates.

Twenty tankers will supply about 200 tonnes of Zamzam water daily to the Prophet’s Mosque, to be distributed in 4,000 thermoses inside and outside the mosque.
