Budget airline flydubai is set to expand its route further in the GCC by announcing it will start a twice daily service to Bahrain next month.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, the low cost carrier’s CEO, said the route will begin on December 13 with a one way ticked starting at AED250.
Al Ghaith said the timing of the new service “could not be better”, as Bahrain is emerging as a profitable business and travel destination.
The Dubai-based airline is planning to expand its network to 12 destinations by the end of the year, Al Ghaith said without giving further details. It already flies to 10 destinations in total.
The carrier began operations on June 1 with flights to Beirut. Since then it has launched flights to Amman, Alexandria, Aleppo, Damascus, Djibouti, Doha, and Khartoum, making it one of the fastest growing start-up airlines in the world.
“It has not been without a few hitches along the way, but this has been a very exciting and relatively smooth journey,” he told the news website.
“We still have a long way to go, but we have built a good foundation, and I believe we are still placed to handle that challenges that we, as any business, have to face.”
The airline will commence flights to its ninth destination, Baku, on Friday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the budget carrier said it planned to expand its business by offering holiday packages, insurance and other ancillary travel services in a bid to strengthen its revenues.
