STME establishes Egyptian base

Storage solutions provider and integrator STME has opened a new corporate office in Egypt, building on its eight years of experience working in the Egyptian market.

The opening adds to STME’s network of 15 offices in 11 countries across the region.

“As one of the largest economies in the Arab world, Egypt has been integral to STME’s strategic vision for the region and has traditionally contributed a fair percentage of STME’s business volume and revenue,” said Jocelyn Al Adwani, deputy CEO at STME.

“Egypt’s IT boom has lately been driving up demand for storage solutions, which encouraged us to have a more direct presence in the country by setting up a full-fledged corporate office. The new office will allow us to serve our customers in and around Egypt more resourcefully and proximately,” she noted.

STME announced its increased commitment to the Egyptian market at the Information Technology Petroleum Conference and Exhibition, which took place in Cairo this month.

“We believe the Information Technology Petroleum Conference and Exhibition is the perfect platform to announce the launch of our new office in Egypt.

The event comes at a most opportune time, given the technology-driven modernisation taking place across the many sub-sectors within the petroleum industry, which has been boosting demand for IT systems including storage solutions, ” Al Adwani added.

STME has also announced the appointment of Mohammed Aboualam as its regional manager for Egypt and Levant.

Commenting on the appointment, Yasser Wardany, sales director at STME, said: “This organisational restructuring serves to further our strategic objectives for the region. Moha- mmed is a well-known industry figure with considerable experience, and his dynamics and ma-rket knowledge will lend a str- ategic edge to our operations.”

Earlier this year STME split with long-term partner EMC, over issues with “incompatible” regional strategies (see IT Weekly 29 April – 5 May 2006).

STME subsequently signeda deal with Sun Microsystems to offer the vendor’s full range of solutions in the Middle East, as well as tightening up alliances with Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) and StorageTek, which is now owned by Sun.
