Tokyo set to become Emirate’s 102nd destination

Emirates is to expand its operations in Japan with the addition of direct flights to Tokyo, the Dubai-based airline has announced.

Tokyo will be the airline’s 102nd international destination, and closely follows the recent launch of operations to Durban and Luanda.

It will be its second direct route to Japan, as the airline has been flying to Osaka for the last seven years.

Starting 28th March 2010, Emirates will fly non-stop to Tokyo five times a week on every Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the service will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Emirates’ longstanding partnership with Japan Airlines will be expanded to include a code share on the new Dubai-Tokyo-Dubai services.

“The Emirates brand is well-known in the Japanese market and our service is appreciated by Japanese travellers. Over 200 Japanese crew work at Emirates, operating flights to and from Osaka; Japanese delicacies like sushi are served on our flights; and Japanese movies are shown on ‘ice’ – Emirates bespoke inflight entertainment system offering the largest programming in the skies,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

The UAE and Japan has many close business links with Dubai being home to around 300 Japanese companies and the largest Japanese community in the Middle East.

Finally! Tokyo Narita a dream for Emirates that comes true today after years of efforts and negotiations!
All my friends in Tokyo (senior executives) have been dreaming of that route. The disappointment is that it will be Boeing 77-300 ER and not daily. I am sure that Emirates would have enough business from Tokyo to Dubai to fill not less than 4 flights a day of Airbus 380!!
We used to fly to Osaka from Tokyo in order to take the A340 flight or previously taking the bullet train to fly through Nagoya.
Tokyo could be a major hub for Emirates as successful as the London route, if not beyond.
People in Japan hear a lot about of the ICE system and millions dream of experiencing it!
Long live Emirates! Plz put Airbus 380 on to Tokyo and make it at least daily!
