Emirates announced on Monday that it expects to add 11 new aircrafts to its 145 strong fleet in 2010, as it expands its routes across the world.

In preparation for the expansion of the fleet, the airline is currently recruiting new cabin crews and pilots.

The Dubai based carrier has already added four new destinations for its flights this year, with three of the destinations, Amsterdam, Prague and Madrid, being in Europe, while the fourth is Tokyo, Japan.

As well as the new destinations, the airline has recently begun intensifying its activities in Europe with flights to Nice becoming a daily service from five times a week, increasing the access to the famous French Riviera.

As a result of this increased activity, the airline also announced on Monday that that it would be doubling the number of flights to Rome from 12 times a week to twice a day.

It would also be supplementing double daily flights to Milan and a daily flight to Venice.

With the new schedule, Emirates says that its passengers will be able to choose between morning and afternoon flights seven days a week, thus allowing them greater flexibility and convenience.

Salem Obaidalla, senior vice president, commercial operations, Europe and Russia, said: “We have been strengthening our services to Rome since October last year, gradually building up to the double daily."

He added: "We know Rome is a powerful tourism magnet, but it is also an important business centre, so we’re confident the extra flight will be a success.”
