WET WEATHER: Rain has been falling across the UAE, causing flooding in Ras Al Khaimah and parts of the Northern Emirates.

An Emirati man died and four others were seriously injured when heavy rains flooded a wadi in Ras Al Khaimah on Saturday.

Saeed Mohammad Ali Habas, 35, drowned after his white pickup truck was swept away by floods flowing over the Wadi Ghaleelah dam.

According to UAE daily Gulf News, a number of people tried to save the man with a rope but failed. The accident was reported to the police who dispatched a helicopter, but Habas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Heavy rain fell on the emirate on Saturday, lashing those who had gathered at Wadi Ghaleelah in the remote area of Shaam and Ghaleelah. According to the paper, heading to wadis to watch rainfall is considered a normal practice in the emirate.

Light to moderate rains were recorded in Al Ain, while there was moderate rain associated with lightning and thunder storms in Umm Al Quwain. Heavy downpours flooded roads, valleys and homes in parts of the Northern Emirates, and around 100 vehicles were stuck on the road at Jebel Jais.

Forecasters have warned residents to expect more rain, especially in the Northern Emirates, this weekend.
