Investcorp secures hard drive data with new Pointsec implementation

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Monday, 01 January 2007
Ritchie: Investcorp needs to protect its data, as well as its reputation.

Investcorp, a manager of alternative investment products, has implemented Pointsec Endpoint Encryption solutions across 200 laptops in its three international offices.

Pointsec’s PC encryption software ensures that all or selected parts of the data on a hard drive can be encrypted in real time and can only be accessed by an authenticated user.

Full disk encryption protects the operating system and sensitive system files, ensuring that all security vulnerabilities are closed.

Investcorp has four product areas: private equity, hedge funds, real estate investment and venture capital.

Its investment products are offered to institutional and individual clients, primarily in the Gulf, and as a result its executives travel frequently between its offices in Bahrain, New York and London, and to visit investors around the world.

“Privacy is critically important and is central to our business,” said Steve Ritchie, managing director for global technology at Investcorp.

“Not only would our relationship with our clients be damaged if we had a breach, but the integrity of our brand would be affected, and we could face heavy penalties from our regulators.

“Pointsec outperformed the competition in terms of functionality, ease of management and world class references. It is the only endpoint encryption solution that has earned the BITS Tested Mark, an important certification that demonstrates that Pointsec meets the particular needs of the financial services industry.”

A study conducted by Pointsec recently found that one in every four unclaimed laptops found at airports and other public places in Europe have no kind of security on them, meaning that they could be subject to damage or misuse if they fell into the wrong hands.

“Employing a centrally-managed, easy to use solution across all laptops quickly gives both executives and IT managers peace of mind when looking at regulatory concepts such as risk assessment or data protection clauses in regulatory guidelines,” said Ayman Majzoub, managing director of Pointsec Middle East, Africa and India.

Pointsec solutions are used by organisations to secure sensitive information stored on laptops, PDAs, smart phones and removable media.
