Alimak hoists fast-track twin towers for Al Shafar

The contractor used four hoists, with a capacity of 2,400kg each, to move materials and people to a height of 203m, 44 floors above the podium.

Rapid movement of people and materials was one of the key factors involved in completing the 22-month Al Kazim project in Dubai, according to project manager, Wadih El Chaer.

Main contractor Al Shafar opted to use four Alimak Scando twin hoists to ensure that people and materials could be moved up and down the structure quickly during construction of the towers on Sheikh Zayed Road.

“From day one we knew this was going to be fast track – working 24 hours – and it has not slowed down,” said El Chaer.

“We came to rely on the Alimak [hoists] more and more as we went higher.

“The four twin-cage hoists have proved to be essential in moving people and materials across the site helping to meet the tight completion deadline,” he added.

The towers feature three basement levels, a ground floor and an eight-storey podium plus two 52-storey towers rising 44 floors above the podium to a height of 203m.

Rising above the towers are two ‘extensions’, which top out at 265m.

The basement and podium levels will include parking for almost 2,500 cars.

El Chaer anticipated delivery of the four Alimak Scando 24/32 FC twin-cage construction hoists from local distributor Inma in March last year.

The Alimak hoists provided a payload capacity of 2,400kg at a speed of 57 m/min. Each cage measures 1.5m (W) x 3.2m (L) x 2.15m (H).
