Huawei in tune with Maroc’s IPTV plans

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Friday, 15 September 2006

Moroccan telecommunications operator Maroc Telecom has selected Huawei Technologies as the exclusive supplier for the second phase of its internet protocol television (IPTV) project.

The Chinese firm will enable Maroc Telecom to expand its infrastructure to cope with strong demand after the project attracted more than 10,000 subscribers in three months.

Maroc Telecom stated it had again opted for Huawei’s scalable end-to-end solution for its IPTV “because it offers a wide range of services, a stable system operation and provides an excellent user experience.”

The first phase of the IPTV project focused on broadband TV and video on-demand.

In phase two, Huawei will add video value-added service. It will also provide uniform management and backup of the network-wide equipment, a reliable content protection mechanism and an electronic programme guide (EPG) interface customisation function to reflect local Moroccan characteristics.

“We will construct a highly reliable H.264-based, expandable IPTV commercial office for Maroc Telecom which will be one of the largest of its type in the world,” claimed Zhang Guoxin, director of Huawei’s digital media entertainment product line.
