Unisys theif caught

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Friday, 22 September 2006

Authorities have charged a Unisys sub-contractor with stealing a computer containing sensitive information on up to 38,000 medical patients at the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Khalil Abdulla-Raheem, of Washington, D.C., was charged with theft of government property. The 21-year-old man worked for an unnamed company that provides temporary labour to Unisys.

The computer was stolen from Unisys’ offices in Reston, Virginia. It is understood that it contained records on 16,000 patients who had been treated at VA medical centres as well as on a further 2,000 patients who are now deceased. It may also have held information on an additional 20,000 patients.
