by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Thursday, 01 February 2007

What exactly is the Supply Chain Management Forum?

The Supply Chain Management Forum is held every year in Dubai, organised by IIR Middle East. It is aimed at supply chain management professionals, including those dealing with air cargo, throughout the region. The event provides an innovative platform for the discussion, debate and knowledge sharing of topical logistics issues.

What response have you received in previous years?

This year’s event is the fourth we’ve held and its consecutively grown bigger every year. The forum has proved extremely successful in previous years and has attracted hoards of senior professionals from throughout the Middle East and beyond. The feedback from each year has been extremely positive and it is widely regarded as a must-attend industry event.

What will delegates gain from attending the event?

This event features a range of top regional and international speakers from the leading logistics and supply chain companies. With an unparalleled speaker line-up and extensive delegate list, the forum represents a variety of industries from the Middle East and further afield. It is the perfect opportunity to network and interact with industry thought leaders and colleagues. The forum also provides leading edge information on the latest practical developments in the industry and assesses the newest technology solutions.

What do you have planned for this year’s event and how will it be different to the previous ones?

The Supply Chain Management Forum is well respected in the region and the 2007 forum builds on the success of 2006. This year’s programme is more extensive than ever before, with industry specific streamed sessions devoted to education and international best practice, as well as seven innovative workshops designed to provide hands on skills and new, practical tools and techniques to improve supply chain performance.

What topics will be discussed during the event?

Issues to be explored at the forum include benefiting from free trade and WTO, achieving warehousing and inventory excellence, collaboration strategies and implementing RFID, to name a few.

Who are you targeting to attend the Supply Chain Management Forum?

The event is aimed at senior supply chain management professionals from across the Middle East, as well as technical and operation staff.

Why do you believe an event like Supply Chain Management Forum is important in Dubai?

With sharply increasing competitiveness from all areas of the supply chain, and the constant demand for improvement at every stage means that moving forward too slowly with progress is actually very damaging to your company. Customers and users of logistics services need to keep abreast of the latest developments.

Logistics in the Middle East is a dynamic and rapidly changing world with service levels, specialised handling and service provisions continually being redefined by providers. Attending the forum will ensure a thorough understanding of how leading companies streamline and optimise their supply chain functions to gain the competitive advantage.

What other logistics related events does IIR have planned in the Middle East?

We will hold a warehousing conference in June, which examines the key role of warehousing in the Middle East and explores strategies for success. The 5th Middle East Purchasing Forum will run again in November. This is the premiere event for all purchasing professionals in the region. In addition, IIR also runs a number of related seminars throughout the year, including Effective Buyer, Competitive Logistics Advantage, Purchasing Masterclass, Warehouse Design – Construction and Operations, and Fleet Management.

The Supply Chain Management Forum takes place between 25th February – 1st March 2007 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Dubai. For more information, please visit: www.iirme.com/supplychain
