South Korea's LG Electronics has appointed Axiom Telecom its key mobile handset distribution partner in the Middle East.

Under the terms of the agreement, Axiom will also distribute LG's burgeoning range of handset accessories in the region, in addition to offering after-sales service.

Axiom Telecom is one of the largest retailers and distributors of mobile and wireless solutions in the Middle East, with more than 400 outlets across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Egypt.

Jae Hoon Bae, LG's executive VP of Mobile Communications Overseas Marketing, said the deal would prove one of mutual benefit.

"While LG is a leader in communications technology and design, Axiom has strong regional experience and extensive market penetration," he said. "I believe that through our combined efforts, we can offer the best products and services to all our customers."

KW Kim, president of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa, said the company hoped the new deal would enable it to significantly increase its handset sales in the region, which were valued at US$185 million in 2005.

"This alliance is an important development to maximise the profile and reach of our products," he said. "It will also help us meet growing customer demand as we strive to attain leadership in the region's mobile handset market."

In addition to mobile retail and distribution, Axiom Telecom is also a partner of telco du in the UAE and Mobily in Saudi Arabia.
