LG jumps aboard HD DVD bandwagon with W1

LG Electronics has unveiled its latest entertainment-focused notebook PC, the 17.1-inch widescreen W1 Pro Express Dual.

The notebook PC is LG's first to feature a HD DVD drive as standard, and follows on the heels of the company's development of an optional DVB-T module for its notebook range which enables the reception of live digital television services.

"With notebook PCs emerging as the centerpiece of convergence devices, LG endeavors to lead this trend," said KW Kim, president of LG Electronics, Middle East and Africa operations. "We will strengthen the company's penetration in the premium notebook PC market by enhancing our existing line-up of notebook PCs to cater to every possible segment."

The Pro Express Dual notebook's 17.1-inch widescreen LCD monitor provides an ideal platform for viewing digital content. It can also be linked to an external monitor via a 7-in S-Video port.

Equipped with Intel's Core 2 Duo T7400 CPU, 2GB DDR2 memory, ATI Radeon X1600 graphic card, and SATA 160GB hard drive, the notebook is also capable of handling data-intensive projects such as special effects work, rendering and 3D painting, concurrently.

Other standard features include Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005 operating software, a Mobile Intel 945PM Express chipset and a 5-in-1 multimedia card slot.

It also weighs just 3.1kg with a 6-cell battery supplied as standard.

LG achieved healthy 22.6% grow-year-on-year growth in terms of notebook and PC sales globally in 2006.
