Emirates Roads takes Maktoum bridge work
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Saturday, 10 February 2007
Emirates Roads Construction Company has won a US $17 million (AED64 million) contract from the Roads and Transports Authority (RTA) to expand Al Maktoum Bridge.
The contract includes the widening of the roads leading to the bridge from two to three lanes, starting from Um Hurair Road, along with the bridge expansion itself.
Work also involves the improvement and development of Khalid Bin Al-Walid Road.
The RTA has also awarded the movement parts of the bridge and the improvement works from the Deira side of the Creek to contractor Waagner Biro Gulf, which is currently building the Floating Bridge.
"The improvements include increasing the number of lanes from Deira to Bur Dubai from four lanes to six lanes by using the current spaces between the movement parts of the bridge, which helps increase capacity for the traffic movement," said Mattar Al Tayer, executive director, RTA.
