The UAE is planning to survey the entire country to establish data on the finances of a typical home.
The Household Income and Expenditure Survey will begin in March 2007, according to a committee which will be run from the Planning Sector at the Ministry of Economy.
The survey will look at consumption and expenditure throughout the country. It will seek to define the average household by measuring individual's expenditure on services and commodities.
Data from the survey will be used to measure the burden of price-hikes on consumers and identify different categories of households and individuals based on education, income, nationality and profession.
The survey will help to estimate the current volume of demand on goods and service and in the future, measure the average income and its influence on family expenditure.
The other objective of the survey will be to provide data on overall demographic and economic characteristics based on a statistical sample of households.
