In a bid to increase visitor numbers to the Water Technologies, Energy and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2007) the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) will award a AED6,000 prize to one visitor.

The move is aimed at attracting members of the public to WETEX 2007 in an attempt to raise awareness of energy and water saving technologies.

Abdullah Al Haraji, DEWA senior manager of corporate communications and occupational health and safety, stated that the sum is equivalent to the average annual household costs for electricity and water consumption. "The reason for the award is to attract as many regular people from society as possible to attend WETEX to get information on what DEWA does and what they should be doing themselves to help save the environment," stated Al Haraji.

"The exhibition has two major objectives: the first is to promote Dubai as a preferred choice for business and finance; the second is to import the latest technologies in the fields of water, energy and the environment to exhibit then to users in the country and the region," added HE Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, md and CEO of DEWA.

The prize money will be deposited into the winner's DEWA account. If the winner is from outside of Dubai they will have the option of transferring the credit to a Dubai resident's account or taking a cash prize.

WETEX 2007 will take place at the Dubai International Trade Centre on 13-15 March.
