Luxury TV beams into Gulf homes
by Rob Corder on Friday, 09 March 2007
A television channel dedicated entirely to luxury living has been launched across the Middle East.
LUXE.tv will show a heady mixture of high end living including fashion, travel, motoring and art.
The network will initially have four European channels respectively in French, German, English and Italian and then gradually launch sister channels in the European market and in Russia, Middle East and Asia, according to its web site.
The channel, which will broadcast an entirely High Definition (HD) service, will be available to viewers in the Middle East and North African footprint of the Arabsat satellite.
HD-ready televisions are commonplace in the Middle East, but HD satellite receivers are virtually non-existent.
Arabsat's President and CEO hopes that by offering LUXE.tv as an HD-only service, it will encourage other broadcasters to move to the newest television formats.
"The arrival of LUXE.tv's High Definition channel constitutes a critical milestone in achieving Arabsat's strategy of introducing - and widely spreading the very latest TV technology across the entire MENA region," he said.
