by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Sunday, 18 March 2007
Bank Dhofar has unveiled Oman's first Visa chip and PIN credit card, which it hopes will cut down on fraudulent use.
The new Visa chip card should offer the bank's credit card customers complete security and shorten the time taken to detect fraud.
Mudit Saxena, head of consumer banking, Bank Dhofar, said: "These heightened features of the card will boost Bank Dhofar credit card holders' confidence and encourage them to make greater use of their cards without the fear of fraud or theft. We intend to replace all our existing credit cards with the new credit card that possesses the enhanced chip security feature."
However, the bank will continue to issue customers with other cards using magnetic stripe technology.
Ahmed Al Shanfari, CEO of Bank Dhofar, said: "Our endeavour has always been to offer our customers the most up-to-date banking services and products, while maintaining the highest standards of security. We are proud to be driving Oman's credit card payment industry to a higher security platform."
