O2 calculates Square route

Handset vendor O2 has expanded its presence in the GCC by teaming up with premium goods specialist Square Distribution Company to enter the Kuwaiti market.
O2 is currently building on its successful entry into the Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and UAE markets, and claims to have reached market penetration levels of almost 80%. The deal with Square Distribution will see the vendor’s devices marketed in a wide variety of Kuwait’s prominent retail chains, hypermarkets and IT stores.
The tie-up was announced at a press conference last month to coincide with the Info Connect 2007 exhibition held at Mishref International Fairgrounds. The company’s initial rollout in the Kuwaiti market will include its Atom, Exec and Stealth Xda ranges.
“The Xda Atom is the mighty multimedia PDA-phone that we launched in 2006. The Xda Atom Exec is a PDA-phone built for high-flying professionals who need best-in-class speed and mobile connectivity. The Xda Stealth will appeal to customers who like the function of a coverage device but enjoy the convenience of a mobile phone,” said Sean Wilkins, chief financial officer of O2 Asia Pacific.
The company plans to introduce a further four products in the region, including its Atom Life, Flame, Graphite and Zinc models.
