NEC to launch grid platform

NEC Corporation of America has unveiled details of its grid storage-based Hydrastor platform.
The solution for medium to large enterprises is not expected to ship until the second half of this year, but NEC claimed last week Hydrastor would deliver “limitless scale-out capabilities, enhanced resiliency and continuous availability”.
“With Hydrastor, businesses have a strategic storage platform that enables IT to quickly meet increasingly strict SLA and business policies on information storage, protection and control,” said Karen Dutch, general manager of advanced storage products at NEC Corporation of America.
The grid is composed of nodes running NEC’s DynamicStor management software. NEC said the system was designed in a way that rather than having a single control node for management, everything was distributed across all nodes. Also included in Hydrastor is NEC’s DataRedux deduplication technology, which the vendor claimed reduced storage capacity by up to 75% without affecting performance.
