US firm targeting ME with expansion plan

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Thursday, 22 March 2007

Gateway security firm Secure Computing will expand into new markets to help tap the increased demand for network security products in the Middle East.

The US-based company said this week it is targeting the banking, oil and gas, and telecommunications sectors of the region. It plans to leverage its gateway security products and TrustedSource technology, the company’s global reputation intelligence system, to capture a large share of the market and enhance the Secure Computing brand among its targeted customers.

“Secure Computing has seen a very high demand for network security solutions in the Middle East and we are ready to fill the gap,” said Sami Mulla, director of Secure Computing Middle East and Africa. “Online criminals are getting more sophisticated in their illegal operations, which have necessitated the need for more advanced technology in many companies’ armory of defence. Secure has always been a step ahead of these individuals, which has made us the preferred network provider.”

The company predicts that 2007 will be the ‘Year of the Zombies’, referring to PCs infected by malicious computer programmes or botnets. It claims that these botnets will become more intelligent and better able to evade detection.
