CUP DEAL: Al Jazeera Sport has won exclusive rights to broadcast World Cup 2010 action from South Africa to the Arab world.

Al Jazeera Sport has won the exclusive rights to broadcast the FIFA 2010 World Cup in the Arab world, it was reported on Wednesday. Al Jazeera has allocated five channels, including an English one, to cover the World Cup starting on June 11, Nasser Ghanim al Khelaifi, the general manager of Aljazeera Sport Channel, said.

To subscribe the five channels, existing subscribers of Al Jazeera Sport will have to buy a card worth $100 while new subscribers can take out a six month deal for $130, The Qatar Tribune reported.

The rates are uniform through out the GCC, the paper added.

“For the first time in the history of television and international sport, a number of games will be broadcast according to 3D system,” said Al Khelaifi in comments published by the paper.

Al Jazeera will also broadcast the matches live on new website aljazeerasport.tv, which will be created specifically for the World Cup.

Al Jazeera Sport said it has earmarked 350 staff for 1,000 hours of 2010 World Cup.

The subscription cards will be available in the market from May 12.

Its a real shame for a country for not having the rights to telecast a global event, insted depending on another channel because they brought the telecast rights. Atleast UAE should have shown matches in their national channels as deffered live so that we could have watched those matches. Business overtook needs. Missing world cup for the first time.

Pay 130$ and you will may be watch some of the matches..... some.....because most of the time, til now, there is a lack of signal !!!!!! umbeliavable

hey guys, i originally come from Kenya, and never missed the world cup since 1998. This is the first time i understand i am going to miss it!! So if anyone of you can help me out...and save me from this misery... To watch it, you need to subscribe to al jazeera? pay $130? thats it? no additional charge? do you get the digital receiver with that $130? if not, how much does that digital receiver cost? Another option is internet. what sites can we be able to watch live streams? The 3rd option is sports joints. Would anyone of you be knowing a sport joint around Bur Dubai...specifically Rolla Street, near the mosque?? Any of your help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
