Amusement Whitewater has been awarded a US $25 million (AED92 million) contract for the outdoor themed construction work at the Atlantis, The Palm resort on the Palm Jumeirah.
The project is being developed by a joint venture of Kerzner International and Istithmar.
The contract includes all the themed elements of the resort, such as a water theme park - set to be the largest in the region - a marina habitat and ‘the dig', an Atlantis-themed archaeological experience.
The project is scheduled to be completed within a year. A team of around 350 will be working at the site.
"This is one of the largest projects ever to be undertaken in the region, and we have set up a dedicated team of project management experts and skilled artists, who will together recreate the complete illusion of the lost city of Atlantis," said Duarte Marques, chief executive officer, Amusement Whitewater.
The company has also been involved in projects such as Madinat Jumeirah, Ibn Battuta Mall, Wild Wadi and Ski Dubai. It recently won an award at the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) International Awards in California for its internal theming of Ski Dubai.
