Yusuf Ali recently topped this magazine’s list of the most powerful Indians in the Gulf, a ranking that met with widespread approval. The head of the Lulu supermarket chain, Ali has watched his empire grow with increasing speed over recent years.
According to the group's own literature, EMKE caters daily to over 320,000 customers in the GCC and enjoys over 32 percent of the total retail market share. Last year's turnover was $3.1bn, justifying the company’s claim to be one of the biggest Indian-owned conglomerates in the Gulf. EMKE employs over 23,000 people.
