Shoura Council Member
Bahia Al Jishi was voted as second deputy chairwoman at the Shoura Council in October. A former journalist, Al Jishi was first elected onto the Shoura Council in 2000. She has been an adviser to the prime minister’s court, and also sits on the Supreme Council for Women.
“We came here to discuss with the media what we can do to enhance the image of women in politics,” Al Jishi said recently. “We have to convince them that women are good politicians. We have to change the perception that women and politics do not go together.”
Al Jishi has served as vice chairman of the Higher Committee for Children, and was a founding member of the Bahraini Society for Child Development.
Al Jishi has a BA from Cairo University, a Masters in Middle East studies from the School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS) in London and a doctorate in education and educational media from the University of Boston.
