Asharq Al Awsat
As the new editor-in-chief of Asharq Al-Awsat, Adel Al-Toraifi leads one of the two most influential pan-Arab newspapers globally. He is also a well-regarded commentator and columnist on Arab affairs.
Al Toraifi replaces Tariq Alhomayed who took over from Abdel Rahman Al Rashid.
Al Toraifi, a graduate of London School of Economics and Political Science wrote a thesis titled The Rise and Demise of Saudi-Iranian Rapprochement (1997 – 2009). He also has a masters degree in international conflict from the University of Kingston, London.
Al Toraifi was previously a weekly writer for Al-Riyadh newspaper, before he moved on to write weekly for the opinion pages of Asharq Al-Awsat where he was appointed deputy editor in chief in 2012.
Al Toraifi was also previously editor-in-chief of Al-Majalla and had launched the digital version of the magazine in Arabic, English and Persian.
