Since taking on the role of Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) chairman in 2007, Ahmed Al Nuaimi has spearheaded a variety of developments and initiated targets designed to boost Qatar’s appeal to business, MICE and high-end travellers. A hard man to pin down, Al Nuaimi has embarked on international roadshow after roadshow, tirelessly spreading the word about Qatar to European, Russian and Asian markets. Al Nuami also recently launched a sparkly new global TV ad-campaign promoting the destination on Al Jazeera and CNBC.
His hard work is certainly paying off. The first half of the year saw Qatar hotels record a rise of two points in average occupancy and an increase in revenue compared to last year.
Al Nuaimi has ambitious plans for the future. Forty new hotels are slated to open by the third quarter of 2011, as well as what is sure to be one of the world’s most impressive convention venues, the Qatar National Convention Centre – securing Qatar’s place as a global meetings and conventions destination to be reckoned with.
