Around 5,000 unites will be built on the East Sitra Housing Project in Bahrain by the end of 2016 following orders by prime minister Prince Khalifa Al Khalifa.

The PM said the decision is in line with the Government Action Plan to build 25,000 units by 2018.

He added the projects should be funded by international partnerships in co-operation with Eskan Bank, reported Gulf Daily News.

Al Khalifa further called on the housing and finance ministries as well as the ministerial committee for urbanisation and infrastructure and ministerial committee for financial affairs and rationalising expenditure to join forces and help meet the deadline.

He said the government aims to drive work on its housing projects in order to ultimately improve Bahrainis’ standards of living.
