Legal action will be taken against a company over the death of three workers at a construction site in Bahrain, officials have confirmed. Two Indians and a Bangladeshi were killed when the scaffolding they were working on collapsed in Umm Al Hassam on Monday.

Labour Ministry Under-Secretary Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said in a statement that all work on the site had been stopped, Gulf Daily News reported on Wednesday.

"The ministry has temporarily stopped work at all of the companies' worksites to ensure measures have been taken to protect the safety of workers as well as to take the necessary legal procedures against it including filing a case at the Public Prosecution," he said.

A fourth worker was seriously injured and is still being treated at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC).

Two of the men were working on scaffolding on the ninth floor of the building when it collapsed and fell on the other two men, according to Labour Ministry officials.

The main contactors for the apartment building is the Al Hedaya Contracting Company and Labour Ministry officials are visiting all its other work sites to inspect health and safety standards.

"This will ensure that the company is following safety rules and to avoid a repeat of such tragic incidents which are the result of repeated negligence," the statement added.
