BNP Paribas names new head of Islamic finance ops

BNP Paribas named Tariq Al Samahiji as global head of its Islamic finance and investments business and chief executive of the bank's Islamic finance arm, Najmah.

BNP Paribas's Global Head of Corporate and Investment Banking Alain Papiasse made the announcement in a statement on Monday.

Al-Samahiji will be based in Bahrain, which is the bank's regional hub, and the appointment is effective from Sept. 1.

BNP Paribas's Islamic finance arm plans to expand its workforce by 50 percent in two years and focus on core markets of the Gulf and Southeast Asia for growth despite the rise of new centres, Najmah's former chief executive Jacques Tripon said in June. (Reuters)
