Michelin star British chef Jason Atherton, who worked alongside Gordon Ramsay at London’s maze restaurant until 2010, is to open a series of his own venues around the world, including a restaurant and bar in Dubai Marina in 2014.
Atherton began working with Gordon Ramsay in 2001 as the executive chef for Verre in Dubai, the celebrity chef’s first restaurant outside the UK. Returning to the UK in 2005, Atherton oversaw the launch of Ramsay’s maze restaurant in the Hilton Prague Old Town hotel.
After further launches in Qatar and Australia, Atherton left Ramsay in 2010 and began setting up his own restaurants, starting with the Pollen Street Social, which was awarded a Michelin star.
Outlets followed in Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai and he is currently developing restaurant and bar venue in Dubai Marina, according to the Bloomberg news agency.
The venue has a working name of Dubai Marina Social and Social Room and will include a huge bar and nightly DJ set. While an exact location was not revealed, the report said the venue was set to open in 2014.
While Gordon Ramsay’s Verre closed in 2011 after nine years, he hinted in January he might be making a return to the emirates in 2013 and claimed he was looking at two possible venues.
