Nineteen shopping malls in Dubai will start a 72-hour “mega” sale beginning on Monday.

Shoppers will be offered up to 75 percent discounts on global brands. The sale is part of the six-week Dubai Summer Surprises, which runs until August 12.

In May, Dubai held a three-day “super sale”, where retailers offered 30 to 90 percent discount.

“The 72-hour sale is here, giving you the chance to save even more on a range of fashion and apparel from some of your favourite brands,” according to Dubai Tourism, which is the organiser of the event.

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in a previous report, predicted retail sales to reach $54.50 billion (AED200bn) this year, growing by five percent on average each year.

Global consultancy JLL said last week that Dubai’s retail sector will continue to “face challenges in the short term though long-term prospects remain bright”.

However, it added that Dubai undoubtedly remains the leading retail location in the Gulf, with 3.39 million square metres (sqm) of retail malls, ahead of other major cities, such as Abu Dhabi (2.62 million sqm), Jeddah (1.21 million sqm) and Riyadh (1.17 million sqm).

On an international scale, the emirate has nearly twice as much retail space per capita as London, which reflects its reputation as a major international retail hub, JLL said.

According to visitdubai.com, the sale, which will run until July 12, will cover 19 malls:

* The Dubai Mall
* City Centre Mirdif
* City Centre Deira
* Ibn Battuta Mall
* Mall of the Emirates
* Dubai Marina Mall
* Dubai Festival City
* Oasis Centre
* City Walk
* Al Ghurair Centre
* Town Centre
* Arabian Centre
* Burjuman
* The Outlet Village
* Dubai Outlet Mall
* Mercato
* City Center Me'aisem
* City Centre Barsha
* City Centre Shindagha
