Dubai's transport authority has announced alternative plans to provide cover for the partial closures of Metro Red Line services between Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Ibn Battuta Metro Stations.

The Road and Transport Authority's (RTA) Public Transport Agency said it is launching a free circular bus route as an alternative service to cover the closure.

The shuttle bus service will be in place throughout the metro closure period, which will be on weekends only (Friday and Saturday) over 10 weeks from July 28 to October 15.

“The closure is required to proceed with construction works related to Route 2020 Project,” said Mohammed Abu Baker Al Hashmi, director of Planning & Business Development, RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

“This service is offered to meet the needs of public transport riders in general and metro commuters in particular between the said two stations."

Work on the Route 2020 project started earlier this year and when completed it will extend about 15 kilometres from Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station on the Red Line. It will have seven stations, which includes five elevated stations and two underground stations.
