The doctor who treated a maid after she was attacked by her employer’s pet lion has been blamed for her death and fired, according to Kuwaiti media.

The lion had escaped from its cage when it attacked Lourdes Abejuela, from the Philippines.

She was taken to hospital and was discharged a short time later.

After complaining of headaches she returned to the hospital, where she later died.

An investigation carried out into the cause of her death found the doctor was responsible because he “did not take the correct medical and technical procedures into consideration”, Arab Times reported.

Minister of Health Ali Al Obeidi ordered the doctor be fired.

It is illegal to own lions as pets in Kuwait.
