The European Union will donate US $196 million (ETB1.7 billion) to Ethiopia for the construction of roads.

The grant is the highest among the donations the EU has extended to an African country.

Ethiopia is one of the world’s least networked countries.

A report released by the country’s Revenue Authority stated that while investment for the construction sector had driven a significant number of local and foreign business investment, this had not been reflected in improvement of infrastructure.

The report called for the increased involvement of foreign and local companies in the construction of roads and dams in the country.
