Dubai hotel offers free meal to redundancy victims

As the global financial crisis continues to impact in the Gulf region, a Dubai hotel has decided to offer a free meal to victims of the credit crunch.UAE residents recently made redundant can eat for nothing at the Arabian Park hotel from December 15 until January 15, 2009, it was revealed on Thursday. The offer is limited to one meal during the time period.

Hundreds of Dubai-based real estate staff have been made redundant recently as the global economic crisis has hit the local property market.

Companies including Nakheel, Damac, Tameer and Omniyat have been forced to trim their workforces while the likes of Emaar Properties and Dubailand developer Tatweer said they are reviewing their recruitment policy in light of the economic situation.

"Anyone who has lost their job simply needs to bring along their redundancy notice and their food is completely free," said general manager Mark Lee in comments published by UAE daily Gulf News on Thursday.

The complimentary dinners will be offered in the hotel's Brasserie restaurant. The offer is open to anyone who has lost their job since Nov. 1.

I think it's a great gesture that someone came to atleast make an offer to those in need. It's easy to fill up this page with negative comments and laugh at someone else who has taken an initiative rather than doing something yourself.

Mr Nice Guy. I don't think picking up a particular word has anything to do with somebody's language skills. Your silly suggestion makes me laugh. Cherry picking at its best. You should follow all the articles about job losses in Dubai. All the leading newspapers reported job losses in the above mentioned companies only. So better analyse the situation as a whole before jumping into conclusions.

A pretty clever (but quite shameless IMHO) PR stunt. How many column inches, or web hits (i.e free advertising space) vs. meals (cost). Brilliant... a touch of the 'Richard Branson' no less.. I doff my humbe cap!

One Meal is enough to face the credit crunch, this is nothing but a adv gimick, the simple way to solve the issue is to reduce the rents, schoold fees and other govt fees. Fear of spending is hampering the shopping malls, directly affecting the local tourism business.
