DETERMINED: Sheikh Mohammed said on Sunday that if Dubai submits a formal bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games, it will be

Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum said on Sunday that if Dubai submits a formal bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games, it will be "in it to win it".

Sheikh Mohammed, also prime minister of the UAE, said that currently there was no bid but feasibility studies were being done to evaluate costs and benefits.

In an interview on the eve of Dubai's hosting of the SportAccord convention, he said: "No matter what we decide in terms of a possible bid, this process will be good for Dubai. It will help us identify the strengths and weaknesses of our transportation systems, our tourism facilities, our sports venues and other vital infrastructure. This learning process will benefit Dubai even if we never bid for the Olympic Games."

In comments published by news agency WAM, he added: "We have a lot to offer. Dubai already has a well-developed infrastructure and a good track record of staging international sporting events, although admittedly not on the scale of the Olympic Games.

"But we also have to be realistic. The summer heat can be a serious problem for athletes. We will have to take an honest look at our weaknesses as well as our strengths.

"I can assure you of this, though: If we decide to make a bid for the Olympics, we will be in it to win. We would not take such a step unless we were quite serious about it."

Leaders from the world of sport were gathering in Dubai on Sunday for SportAccord, the world's largest sports convention.

The meeting, being held for the first time in the Middle East, will bring together members of the International Olympic Committee's powerful executive board, the leaders of international sports federations and top executives from the sports industry.

The first meeting of Dubai 2020 team, chaired by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, was held in November 2009.

I can see all the Indian honey bees who are here to suck the honey and return on first instance(some already have fled...). Greedy I say. I am happy to see so many supporters for Indian corrupt politicians. I realise they are politicians themselves who keep talking about all the glories of India and patriotism without any shame as they make their good money serving another nation and have not an inch loyalty to that nation. I am sure they were the Dubai bashers when the recent crisis unfolded not even thinking their food comes from this land. I can see the corrupt leaders in each of these so called loyal Indians who preach something and practice something else altogether.. In this modern world, every person has the right to choose where he wants to live and to what his loyalty goes to. I cannot stand the outright corrupt system & insecure atmosphere in India and I decided to get out. I found security & a transparent system in UAE for a common family man. Every person has their 'own plans' and having a good life for me and my family is my plan. I have my true feelings for India but maybe that is a lot less than what the fanatics have.. I saw a nation being build in front of my eyes due to the determination of the leaders and I appreciate this. In how many countries can you see this???

Yes we are patriotic and we are proud about it!! As i mentioned in my earlier comment i migrated for better opportunities + 1AEDx12 INR not because i disliked any aspects of india. For your information there are more opportunities currently i am offered from India but i have my own plans for a couple of more years. I have no issues in returning to India for good any day that is destined for me and i will go happily, but god forbid if that were to happen to you, I not sure you will be very comfortable. Many politicians and government officials are currupt, but it is not an exception to India alone. Every country in the world has its share of corruption at various levels. If ever i am given an opportunity to join the Indian Army i will proudly do so!! Also for your Information, i do not have any intention or motivation to take up any citizenship or passport of any other country. I was born an Indian and will die as one.

I?m not an Indian and even my stomach turns by people like ?expat?. As soon as they get a full stomach they will sell and ridicule their country. I?m From Iran and want nothing then to see the Mullahs disappear and am aware of and willingly admit to ALL the problems we have there, but I love my country. Sheikh Mohammed's vision and hard work is very well known and there is no wrong to admire him for that. Also the progress of UAE is enviable for many neighbouring countries. I myself love Dubai and travel 3 times every year to UAE as a tourist. But the way you did put down your own country and the over the top and very obviously false admiration of UAE is too much for anyone. The Indians you advice to go back to India are the ones actually needed and asked for in many countries, educated and with pride. Your kind, on the other hand, is the ones that migrate in millions and millions to any country, accept any treatment and any pay cuts just so you can stay and won?t return until caught in a police sting. Don?t fool yourself; the Emiratis are on to you as you have almost single headedly made Emiratis a very small minority in their own country and no amount of sycophantic (crawling) will get you off the hooks. They have noticed that millions of you are getting in the country and none of you are returning even when loosing jobs. And forget about UAE passport. They give it only to proud people.

Dear expat, dont get your hopes too high; acting sycophantic and putting down your country of origin doesnt qualify you for a UAE passport. Every country has issues, but no one looks favorably upon sometime who bashes his country in public....

If you guys like India so much why are you here? to SERVE the UAE? I am talking about Indian politicians in comparison to His Highness and I stand by the view that these politicians are all greedy for money and has nothing in the interest of India. I am not ashamed to say UAE has given me a better life and chances than India. I am not a hypocrit. Pls dont chew my words and state that I am anti India. My comments were strictly about the leaders who are taking such a big country rich in all resources to the back stage. And yes if I was able to get a UAE passport, I am ready to surrender the Indian Passport (just like the many Indians who have migrated to other places and taken passports). Pls think how many of you patriots will not do that? I cannot say that I dont enjoy this standard of life. It is my choice. So pls guys give me a break and go back to India to serve the country. Join the Indian Army.. even better...
