Dubai-based Mohebi Logistics plans to invest AED350m ($95.3m) in a new headquarters and logistics facility at Dubai Logistics City, Dubai World Central as part of its AED1bn investment strategy.

The firm signed a lease agreement for a 1.5 million sq ft plot of land, which will house facilities to double its logistics capacity, the firm said in a statement.

Mohebi Logistics, part of the Zainal Mohebi Group, said it would consolidate its FMCG operations into one location at Dubai World Central. The new facility will be constructed in two phases.

Aramex, Kuehne + Nagel, Panalpina, Hellmann Caliper, INL, RSA Logistics all have operations in Dubai World Central, built to boost the emirate’s transport and logistics services.

Trade and logistics are key drivers of growth in Dubai, which lacks the oil wealth of neighbouring Abu Dhabi. The emirate accounts for around 80 percent of the United Arab Emirate’ non-oil trade but only 28 percent of its economic output.

Dubai World Central, which opened its cargo operations in 2010, handled 89,729 tonnes of air freight last year, its first full calendar year of operations. When the airport is fully completed, it will be able to handle 12 million tonnes of cargo and 120 million passengers a year.
