Dubai's RTA to add landmarks to number plates

Motorists in Dubai will soon be able to purchase license plates featuring images of the Burj Khalifa and other landmarks.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will launch the number plates, which will include a series of pictures including landmarks as well as cultural and historical moments, in the first quarter of 2013.

“The RTA has opted to embark on this step as a means of revamping number plates in response to the interests and aspirations of customers, in a step considered the first of its kind in the region,” Ahmed Bahrozian, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, said in a statement.

Drivers will be required to pay for the new plates, which will be valid for five years, after which they will have to renew the contract. Although the list of images has yet to be finalised, images are expected to include the Burj Al Arab and Emirates Towers.

Such number plates were standard before 2005 in Dubai, especially with an image of the Burj Al Arab. It was disappointing when they were replaced with the new style of plate, but this is definitely not a 'first of its kind' initiative.

NICE. I LIKE THAT BUT IF WE ARE TRAVELLING OUR SIDE THE COUNTRY BY ROAD, CAN OTHER COUNTRIES ALLOW US TO ENTER ?
